PROBLEM
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the customer wanted to preserve some reusable materials, including a pick-up chain and a hang-off chain from a FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) unit going into layup. The chains were extremely corroded, and the customer wanted to clean them off before storing them in a warehouse.
APPLICATION
The customer opted for a chemical cleaning method because the corroded chains would be very difficult to clean. For initial rust removal, they dipped the chains in a 1:3 dilution of MCI® Super Remover. After this, they applied VpCI®-423 for removal of any remaining corrosion. Following rust removal, the chains were neutralized using a 15% solution of VpCI®-416. CorShield® VpCI®-369 was applied to the chains prior to storage for corrosion protection.
